Overview
Warning: Guides that target features are not supported. For guides targeting features, you will need to open the guide in Visual Design Studio and then retarget the feature.
Adopt users that have access to more than one account, can bulk copy guides from one account to another. Once the guides are copied from a source account to a target account and application, the guide’s status will change to Draft.
The most common use case for bulk copying guides is when you have two accounts that share a common application. The Adopt user can then pass guides from a source account to its sibling accounts.
However, there may be pages in the source account that don’t exist in the target account. Bulk copying allows the Adopt user to map these custom pages from the source account to existing or new pages in the sibling account.
Warning: When a guide with a custom segment is copied its segment will be set to Everyone. The guide status will also be set to Draft. Remember to review your copied guides and reconfigure their segment and status as these settings are modified during the copying process.
Steps
Select Guides
Select the guides you’d like copied by clicking the checkbox next to its name.
Tip: You can select all your guides by clicking the checkbox at the top of the column.
Click “Copy to Account”
Note: This functionality will only exist if the user is part of more than one account. If the user is only a part of one account, they will not have this capability.
The “Copy to Account" button is located below the date range filter. The button will only appear once you’ve selected a guide or guides.
Select the account and a target application
Note: When a guide is copied to a new account, new pages created in the process inherit the source guide’s existing page rule. This is because the target application must have the correct page rules to display the guide. If a guide is copied to an application that does not have the page, the rules cannot be applied. In this scenario, you will need to reconfigure the guide to target the source guide’s page.
Copying guides to an application with no pages
If the target application does not have any existing pages, you will not be able to select any pages, as there are no pages to select from. You will instead see the message, “The target application does not have any pages. New page(s) will be created based on the source pages rules.”
Copying guides to an Account with identical applications
If the target application has some, but not all, of the existing pages the Page Mapping section will only display pages which don’t exist in the target application.
In the example above, the page index.html is the only page which needs to be mapped from the source application to the target application, as it is the only which doesn't exist in the target application.
The Adopt end user must map the current page to a page that exists in the target application, or create a new page. The copied guide’s step which was once linked to the index.html page (1), for example, will then be linked to the newly created page, or the existing page you’ve selected from the dropdown.
Tip: Selecting “Create New Page” will re-create the page for each step in your guides that contains this page as a new page in the target application. If multiple steps use this page, only one page will be created. If the relevant page already exists, select it from the list below.
Review and verify copied guides settings
Complete the bulk guide copying process by clicking “Copy Guides” in the bottom right corner.
You will then see a loading bar displaying the amount of guides being copied. The number displayed should match the amount of guides you selected.
If you choose to ‘Create New Page (based on existing rule)’ when mapping a page, you’ll notice the “Processing” label under the newly created page in the target application.
A guide’s status and segment can still be changed even if the page is still being processed. However, you should not expect data for page clicks (events related to pages) to show until the page is finished processing. It can take up to an hour for the Page to process. Double check your guide’s status and segment as copied guides will default to a status of Draft and Everyone.
